how to handle the months, weeks and days preceding your big move and then the day itself

5 steps make moving to a new house less stressful

Moving home is one of the most stressful experiences that anyone can face and most of us do face it. Everything about it is a nightmare but luckily that can be changed. It doesn’t always have to be the way it is for most people. This blog is to help you find out how to handle the months, weeks and days preceding your big move and then the day itself.

Make a to-do list

This might seem like a rather obvious thing to do which makes us question why nobody does it! With a to-do list, you know what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and how it will be done. It’s an easy way for you to work out your priorities. This is only the first step but without this the rest of your plan for an easy move will fall flat, especially if you’re naturally an unorganised individual!

Keep track of details

Again, this may seem too obvious to mention but it’s also something that people can often make mistakes on. If you’re already stressed with moving to a new house, this is a crucial step. You need to double check details such as when you will be able to move into your new house and when you will be able to get transportation to move all your things. It might seem like a waste of time but it’s worth it when you don’t end up trying to move all your stuff on the wrong day! It only takes a few minutes – make the effort to check and confirm details.

Pack things sensibly

You’re in a rush packing your things so your laptop and work uniform for next get chucked into a box with the ice cream maker. Can you find the problem with packing like that or should we tell you? We can hear the ‘but that’s a fast way to pack’ comments now but it won’t be easy to unpack or find a single thing when you get into your new house. It will only take a little longer to properly mark up all your boxes saying what room they should be in and pack them in a logical order and it’ll certainly be much easier to unpack once you have packed your stuff in this way.

Don’t push yourself too hard

Something that everybody does when moving to a new house is push themselves to do everything all at once. Don’t do this! Start packing a little earlier than you originally planned and remember to take plenty of breaks. It’s much easier this way and less stressful.  If you try to push yourself to do everything all at once, you’ll find that you’ll end up with nothing done and all you have gained is a severe headache.

Pack essentials for immediately after the move

Do you want to get to your new house and start unpacking that night? No! An easy way to avoid this is by packing absolute essentials separately so that you don’t have to start unpacking that night. No one wants to get there and start unpacking right away! Give yourself a night off and you’ll be much more motivated to start packing again the next day. Being motivated the next day is the biggest advantage of this but of course giving yourself a night off is sure to reduce your stress levels.

If you follow these 5 easy steps, we can guarantee that your next move will be much easier than you think it’s going to be so start planning today to make sure that your move is stress-free.
